Tips for a cold-weather, multi-border trip
- One eSIM, set and forget. With a regional plan you don’t need to switch lines at each border. Just leave data roaming on for the eSIM line.
- Save tickets offline. Rail apps and QR tickets are easier to show from a screenshot than over a crowded market square’s mobile signal.
- Pick validity to match the trip. Airalo’s 15-day plans suit a fortnight; Saily’s run 30 days if you’re adding New Year somewhere.
- Need a number? Most travel eSIMs are data-only. See eSIMs with a phone number.

Questions travellers ask
What is the best eSIM for a European Christmas markets trip?
A single Europe-wide plan, so you don’t juggle an eSIM per country. Airalo’s Eurolink 10GB, 15-day plan was US$28 and Saily’s Europe 10GB, 30-day plan US$35.99 on 4 November 2026. Both cover Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, France and Switzerland.
Do Europe eSIMs cover Switzerland and the UK?
Airalo’s Eurolink plan lists both Switzerland and the United Kingdom among its 41 countries, and Saily’s Europe plan lists both among its 35. Always check the country list before you buy, because coverage differs between plans.
How much data do I need for two weeks of markets?
About 5–10GB for most travellers: maps, train tickets, messaging and photos. Video calls home and hotspotting a laptop push that higher.
Is there a cheap unlimited Europe eSIM for a short trip?
Airalo’s Eurolink unlimited plan was US$27 for 7 days on 4 November 2026, with 5GB a day at full speed before it slows to 1 Mbps. For longer trips, the 30-day unlimited plan was US$71.
When do the big Christmas markets open in 2026?
Vienna’s Rathausplatz market opens 13 November, Basel 26 November, Nuremberg and Strasbourg 27 November, and Prague’s Old Town Square 28 November, according to each official site.
