eSIM guide

Which travel eSIMs let you tether

If you are travelling with a laptop, the hotspot policy matters more than the price. One provider here caps it at 1GB a day and does not tell you at checkout.

Quick answer · Hotspot rules

Traviva’s pick for tethering is Saily: it allows unlimited hotspot use and publishes the biggest daily allowance of any unlimited plan we compare, 5GB a day at full speed. Airalo and Ubigi also allow unrestricted tethering, Nomad supports it, and Maya Mobile and Simify allow it. Avoid Holafly if you will tether: its destination pages cap hotspot sharing at 1GB a day.

Updated · Each figure comes from the provider’s own published terms; Ubigi’s unlimited allowance was re-checked on 8 October 2026.

Holafly1GB/dayHolafly's destination pages state 1GB/day. A third-party reading of its terms reports 500MB/day. Holafly does not surface either figure at checkout.
Maya MobileAllowed, with guidanceMaya allows tethering and publishes guidance on how to use it.
SimifyAllowedAllowed, but Simify publishes no firm daily cap — a help article says around 1–1.5GB.

The Holafly problem

Holafly’s destination pages state a 1GB per day hotspot cap. A third-party reading of its terms of service reports 500MB per day. We could not reconcile the two, and Holafly surfaces neither figure during checkout.

Either way, it is the tightest restriction in the category by a wide margin. If you plan to work from a laptop, share the connection with a partner, or use a tablet, an unlimited Holafly plan will stop being unlimited within a couple of hours — and you will have paid the highest price in the comparison for it.

If you need to tether

Three providers allow unrestricted tethering: Saily, Airalo and Ubigi. Nomad supports it without publishing a specific limit. Maya Mobile allows it with guidance on use, and Simify allows it.

One caveat worth understanding: unrestricted tethering does not mean unlimited data. Airalo is explicit that hotspot use draws down the same 3GB daily bucket as the phone itself, and the same logic applies everywhere. A laptop doing a video call will burn through a daily cap far faster than a phone will.

For sustained laptop work, a fixed-data plan with a large allowance usually beats an unlimited plan with a daily cap. Ubigi’s 50GB and Nomad’s 50GB plans are the ones to look at.

Airalo allows unrestricted tethering and connected devices; on its unlimited plans, hotspot use draws on the same 3GB daily allowance as your phone.

Hotspot questions travellers ask

Which travel eSIMs let you use a hotspot?

Saily, Airalo and Ubigi allow unrestricted tethering, and Nomad supports it without publishing a specific limit. Maya Mobile allows it with guidance on use, and Simify allows it. Holafly’s destination pages cap hotspot sharing at 1GB a day.

Does Holafly allow hotspot use?

Only in small amounts. Holafly’s destination pages state a 1GB-a-day hotspot cap, and a third-party reading of its terms reports 500MB a day. Holafly shows neither figure at checkout.

Does hotspot use count against my eSIM data?

Yes. Tethering draws on the same allowance as the phone itself; Airalo says so explicitly for its 3GB daily allowance on unlimited plans. A laptop on a video call uses data far faster than a phone.

What is the best eSIM for working from a laptop?

Traviva’s pick is a large fixed-data plan from a provider that allows unrestricted tethering, such as Ubigi’s or Nomad’s 50GB plans, rather than an unlimited plan with a daily cap. If you do want unlimited, Saily allows unlimited hotspot use and the biggest daily allowance, 5GB a day.

Can I tether with Maya Mobile or Simify?

Yes. Maya Mobile allows tethering with guidance on use, and Simify allows it. Simify publishes no firm daily cap, though a help article says around 1–1.5GB, so a laptop may reach its throttle quickly.
