eSIM guide

The best travel eSIM for Fiji

Fiji is the most expensive destination in this comparison for mobile data, and the one where the choice of local network matters most — three of the providers we checked put you on Digicel, and three use Vodafone Fiji.

Quick answer · Fiji

Traviva’s pick for Fiji is Nomad: 10GB for 30 days at US$25 on Vodafone Fiji, the cheapest verified plan by a wide margin — Airalo charges US$49 for the same allowance and Simify A$55. It suits travellers with an unlocked, eSIM-capable phone, but no provider can promise coverage on resort islands in the Yasawas or Mamanucas, because neither Fijian network publishes it.

Nobody publishes whether your resort island has coverage

Most Australians who fly to Fiji leave Viti Levu for an island in the Yasawas or Mamanucas. That is the one place the coverage question matters, and it is the one place neither carrier will answer it.

We went looking on Vodafone Fiji’s and Digicel Fiji’s own sites for a statement — positive or negative — about mobile coverage in the Yasawas, the Mamanucas, Taveuni or Kadavu. Neither carrier publishes one. Vodafone Fiji’s coverage material is built around the main island: Suva, Nasinu, Nausori, Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba.

That silence is not evidence of no coverage, and we are not going to tell you there is none. It means no eSIM seller can honestly promise you coverage at your resort either, because the underlying networks have not said. If connectivity on the island matters to you, the people who can actually answer are the resort — ask them which network works on their jetty, not a comparison site.

This applies equally to every provider on this page. They are all roaming onto the same two Fijian networks, so none of them can be better than those networks are where you are standing.

Fiji is the one destination here where 2G is still alive — for now

Japan, New Zealand and Singapore have retired or are retiring their older networks. Fiji has not finished. Vodafone Fiji has a live page explaining that it is switching 2G off so the space can be reused for 4G and 5G, and warning that 2G-only phones will stop working completely — no calls, no messages, no data, no emergency services.

What that page does not give is a date, or a list of affected areas. So Fiji is mid-transition with no published timetable, which is worth knowing if you were counting on an old handset as a backup.

If you do buy a local SIM on arrival, bring your passport. Vodafone Fiji’s tourist SIM page says customers are asked to present a passport to register and collect the SIM, and that a valid physical passport is the acceptable ID — so the airport counter is not the formality some guides suggest.

Nomad

Nomad on almost every count: $25 for 10GB over 30 days where Ubigi charges $18 for a single gigabyte, and, like Maya Mobile and Simify, it uses Vodafone Fiji rather than Digicel.

Before you choose on price

Every unlimited plan sold in Fiji slows down at some point, so none of them is truly unlimited. Airalo gives you 3GB a day before dropping to 1 Mbps; Holafly publishes no figure at all, though third-party analysis puts it near 2–3GB a day; Maya Mobile gives you 3GB a day before dropping to 10 Mbps, then 1 Mbps; Simify, where it sells unlimited, publishes no firm figure at all — only an approximate 1–1.5GB, and only in a troubleshooting article rather than on any plan page.

An eSIM is a roaming agreement with a local carrier. In Fiji, that means:

Unusually steady — 36,830 trips in May and 36,930 in June, almost identical. Fiji holds its top-ten place through the Australian winter, which fits its role as the short-haul warm escape rather than a summer-holiday destination.

Fiji eSIM questions travellers ask

What is the best eSIM for Fiji?

Traviva’s pick is Nomad: 10GB for 30 days at US$25 in October 2026, on Vodafone Fiji. It is the cheapest verified 10GB plan by a wide margin; Airalo charges US$49 and Simify A$55.

How much does a Fiji eSIM cost?

Fiji is the most expensive destination we compare. A 10GB, 30-day plan cost US$25 from Nomad and US$49 from Airalo in October 2026, Saily’s largest plan is 5GB for US$29.99, and Holafly charges US$99.50 for 15 days of unlimited data.

Will my eSIM work on Fiji’s resort islands?

Nobody publishes it. Neither Vodafone Fiji nor Digicel Fiji states whether there is coverage in the Yasawas, Mamanucas, Taveuni or Kadavu, so no eSIM seller can promise it. Ask your resort which network works there.

Is there an unlimited eSIM for Fiji?

Yes, but it is expensive: Airalo charges US$95 and Holafly US$99.50 for 15 days. Maya Mobile’s global unlimited plan is US$49.99 for 30 days. Saily, Nomad and Ubigi list no unlimited plan for Fiji.

Does 2G still work in Fiji?

For now. Vodafone Fiji says it is switching 2G off and that 2G-only phones will stop working completely, but it gives no date and no list of affected areas.

Do I need a passport for a Fiji SIM?

For a local SIM, yes. Vodafone Fiji’s tourist SIM page says customers must present a valid physical passport to register and collect the SIM. A roaming eSIM bought before you fly avoids the airport counter.
