eSIM guide

Which travel eSIMs give you a phone number

Almost none of them. If you need SMS for two-factor codes or a number people can call, the field narrows to two answers.

Quick answer · Phone numbers

Traviva’s pick if you need a number is Saily, the only provider here that sells a phone number as a simple optional add-on. Airalo includes one on some Data, Voice & Text packages and on Discover+. Ubigi, Holafly, Maya Mobile and Simify are data-only on every plan, and Nomad does not say clearly which plans include one.

Updated · Each figure comes from the provider’s own published terms; Ubigi’s unlimited allowance was re-checked on 8 October 2026.

Why this catches people out

Travel eSIMs are data-only by default. That is fine for maps, messaging and email — but it means no incoming SMS. If your bank sends a two-factor code by text, or an airline texts a gate change, those messages go to your home SIM, which you may have switched off to avoid roaming charges.

The usual answer is to keep your Australian SIM active for SMS while using the eSIM for data. That works, but check what your carrier charges to receive a text while roaming before you rely on it.

The two real options

Saily sells a phone number as a clean optional add-on — the only provider here that treats it as a normal feature rather than a separate product line.

Airalo includes a number on specific “Data, Voice & Text” packages and on its Discover+ global eSIM. One important limit: Airalo’s local voice packages allow in-country calls only, not international.

Ubigi and Holafly never offer a number on any plan, anywhere, and Maya Mobile and Simify are data-only too. Nomad appears to include calls on its Thailand 50GB plan and says “some plans include local phone numbers” without listing which — we could not verify it, so we are not claiming it.

Airalo includes a phone number on some Data, Voice & Text packages and on its Discover+ global eSIM. Its local voice packages allow in-country calls only.

Phone-number questions travellers ask

Do travel eSIMs come with a phone number?

Almost never by default. Travel eSIMs are data-only unless you buy a specific package, so texts such as bank two-factor codes still go to your Australian SIM.

Which travel eSIMs give you a phone number?

Saily sells a phone number as an optional paid add-on, and Airalo includes one on some Data, Voice & Text packages and on its Discover+ global eSIM. Ubigi, Holafly, Maya Mobile and Simify are data-only on every plan.

How do I get SMS codes while using a travel eSIM?

Keep your Australian SIM active for texts while the eSIM handles data. Check what your carrier charges to receive a text while roaming before you rely on it.

Can Airalo’s voice packages call Australia?

No. Airalo’s local voice packages allow in-country calls only, not international calls.

Does Nomad include a phone number?

Possibly on some plans. Nomad appears to include calls on its Thailand 50GB plan and says some plans include local phone numbers, but it does not list which, so we could not verify it.
